Life term for woman, man for murdering husband

The First Additional District Judge on Monday convicted a woman and her paramour and sentenced them to life imprisonment for murdering the woman’s husband near Karumathampatty on January 6, 2014.

The victim S. Kanniraj (32) of Madurai and his wife Muthulakshmi worked in a private mill and lived at Salempalayam village near Karumathampatty with their two children. It is learnt that she developed a relationship with K. Rajendran (35) of that locality and eloped with him, leaving the children with Kanniraj. A couple of years later in January 2014 Kanniraj came to know about the whereabouts of Muthulakshmi and Rajendran and asked her to come back with him.

On January 6, 2014, Rajendran made Kanniraj get drunk, beat him to death using a stone and later abandoned the body on a railway track. During investigation the Karumathampatty came to know that it was a murder and filed the charge-sheet against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

On completion of the trial, the ADJ M. Christopher sentenced the duo to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. 5,000 each on them.
