Compound wall of CMCH reeks of urine

It has become a stinky affair at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital with people urinating on the compound wall of the hospital.

And the wall in which every passer-by relieves himself happens to be the compound wall of the morgue.

The place reeks of urine and those crossing their area have to hold their breathe until they move away and get some fresh air.

According to N.Ravi, a shopkeeper nearby, those urinating have been warned several times but they continue to do so unabated.

"We have told them many times that there is a hospital near and it is important to maintain hygienes but they do not heed to us," he said.

"Apart from the CMCH it is harrowing for the hotel owners nearby as the stench is unbearable and people don't come there to eat. Our business takes a beating," complained a hotel owner.

Another shopkeeper said that while the urination is a big problem, the presence of a broken dustbin is adding to the woes as the waste is largely strewn outside the bin.

The dustbin would be replaced by a new one today and the next day it will be again replaced with a broken one," added a shopkeeper.

The shopkeepers have sought the removal of the dust bin from the area and demanded that the civic body and the health department act on those urinating on the hospital walls.

Officials of the Corporation were not available for comments.
