Decomposed body of 15-year old elephant found in MTR forest

A decomposed carcass of an elephant was found in Sigur forest area coming in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), near here, today.

Some villagers noticed the body and informed the forest officials, who along with veterinarian, Manoharan, rushed to the spot.

Manoharan said that the 15-year old pachyderm was killed, some three days ago, by some elephants during fight among them as the body bore injuries inflicted by tusks all over, particularly abdomen and leg portion.

After post mortem, the body was burnt at the spot.
