Transporting fire crackers has been banned by Indian Railways

In case you use the Coimbatore Junction or any of the railway stations in our city and you are frisked, don’t be taken aback. The Railway Police has stepped up measures of checking rail passengers and their baggage as transporting fire crackers is banned by the railways. Rail passengers and their luggage is checked at the entry and exit points at all the railway stations in Coimbatore. We are informed that if a passenger is found carrying fire crackers in person or in his luggage the passenger is eligible to pay a fine of rupees 5,000 plus he or she will be sentenced to a jail term of three years.

The railway police in this regard has issued a stern warning to public asking them to refrain from carrying or transporting fire crackers on rail. We are told that the Coimbatore Junction is equipped with special machinery and scanners to check passengers 24*7.

In a bid to avoid any incidents of theft at the Coimbatore Junction, a few policemen in plain clothes are constantly present at the crowded locations. In the last few days, the booking counters of the various railway stations are constantly monitored by the railway police.

Flex boards with helpline numbers have been placed at various points at the Coimbatore Junction and at other railway stations in our city.
