The Class 12 state board exams will begin on Friday and more than 43,000 students from Coimbatore and Pollachi would sit for exams this time.

The district school education department has deployed 2,500 teaching and non-teaching staff, and other officials for exam duty.

In Coimbatore 35,867 regular and 1,928 private students would appear for exams, while in Pollachi 6,370 regular and 246 private students would sit for exams this year. In 2015, a total of 36,908 regular students had appeared for Class 12 boards from Coimbatore and Pollachi.

Of this, 34,825 had passed the exam.

"There are 72 examination centres in Coimbatore and 22 in Pollachi," chief education officer N Arul Murugan said.

The district school education department has formed special teams for exam supervision and monitoring. Teams headed by senior officials of school education department and school heads would escort question papers to examination centres and answer sheets to collection centres. There are seven collection centres in Coimbatore and three in Pollachi. "Armed security guards will escort each team. The number of centres under each team will vary depending on route and distance that they can cover under stipulated time," Arul Murugan said.

Special teams have also been formed to monitor malpractices during exams. "The list of centres with a history of malpractices have been identified and a strict vigil will be maintained in these centres," said a senior official of district school education department.

The exams would begin with language first paper on Friday and end on April 1. After the language and English exams, the students would get a minimum of two days gap for major subjects.
