Protest staged condemning lack of amenities in Wards

Members of constituent parties of the People’s Welfare Front (Makkal Nala Kootani) on Tuesday staged a protest in Puliakulam demanding basic amenities in Wards 69 and 70.

Maintenance

Led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist’s district secretary V. Ramamoorthy, the protestors demanded construction of a drain from Ganeshapuram to Mashal Layout in Ward 69, meeting the residents’ needs in Mashal Layout, which they alleged had been ignored for the past five years, improved maintenance of the public convenience facility on the Puliakulam Main Road and letting public use the community hall in the area.

Traffic Signal

The protestors also sought upgrade of the high school to higher secondary school in Dhamu Nagar, construction of a retaining wall in the drain in P.S. Nagar, erection of a traffic signal near the Puliakulam temple so as to prevent accidents and repair of street lights on the Lakshmi Mills - Ramanathapuram Road and construction of speed breakers to prevent accidents.

They complained that during the alternating rule of DMK and AIADMK councillors, the residents of localities in Wards 69 and 70 had seen very little development.

Representatives from the Viduhthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Communist Party of India also participated in the agitation.
