Police patrol vehicles to get CCTV cameras

The city police have planned to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on their patrol vehicles for better supervision.

City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj told reporters on Monday that the cameras will be fixed in all 23 patrol vehicles soon.

360 degree view

“Each jeep will be fitted with four cameras to have a 360 degree view. The cameras will be connected with the city police control room, where the recordings will be stored,” he said.

The commissioner said that this would also help the police monitor the movement of patrolling vehicles.

Police sources said that if the system was successful, plans are on to install cameras on the official vehicles of police officers in the rank of inspectors and assistant commissioners. This is in addition to the efforts taken by the police to install CCTV cameras in important places and connecting close to 3,000 cameras installed in private spaces such as commercial establishments and residential areas with the police control room.
