CM Jayalalithaa Launches Work on Uppur Power Plant Launches

Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has laid the foundation for coal-based super-critical thermal power project (2 x 800 MW) to be established at Uppur village in Ramanathapuram district, at an estimated cost of Rs 12,778 crore.

She handed over the work order for Rs 5,580 cr, towards designing boiler, turbine, generator for the project, distribution, installation, etc.,  to Atul Sobti, Managing Director, BHEL, on February 27. Besides, she commissioned 13 sub-stations set up in 12 districts at a total cost of Rs 424 cr.

Uppur thermal power project would come up in 995.16 acres and is expected to be completed in September 2019 and generate 38.4 million units of power per day. Through this project, Tamil Nadu would get around 12,000 million, in addition to the existing capacity. Recently, Jayalalithaa had laid foundation for a coal-based 800 MW super-critical thermal power project to be established at a cost of Rs 6,376 cr at Athipattu in Tiruvallur dist.

16 New Taluks, Revenue Divisions

Jayalalithaa inaugurated 16 new taluks and four revenue divisions. The taluks are located at Keezhpennathur, Melmalaiyanur, Kandachipuram, Soolagiri, Kaarimangalam, Nallampalli, Kadayampatti, Pallavaram, Nemili, Pernampattu, Manur, Cheranmahadevi, Komarapalayam, Thalavadi, Kodumudi and Modakkurichi. The revenue divisions will have their headquarters at Egmore, Melur (Madurai dt), Coimbatore North and Sattur (Virudhunagar dt).

She also declared open the building for the office of the RDO at Iluppur in Pudukottai district through the video conferencing. New buildings for Revenue Department including the RDO office and quarters, built at Ambattur.

Rs 3L to kin of Electrocution Victims

Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday granted a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of 20 people who had been electrocuted at different places in Tamil Nadu recently. She also conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.
