Young woman and her parents booked for cheating prospective grooms

A young woman and her parents were booked for cheating prospective grooms in various parts of state. Police said the parents used to fix the marriage of their daughter with several men and later demand money claiming that their daughter was suffering from brain cancer. The parents had taken 43 lakh in cash from one of the bridegrooms.

The accused have been identified as P Shruthi and her parents Prasanna Venkatesan and Chitra, all hailing from Peelamedu. Police said the young woman had advertised on matrimonial websites, seeking groom.

Last year, Santhoshkumar, 30, a software engineer from Paramathivelur in Namakkal district, had noticed her profile on the websites and approached Shruthi and her family members. He met the family at RS Puram here and both family members planned to arrange marriage for them.

Later Shruthi's parents told him that she was suffering from brain tumour and she was under treatment. They also told him that she would get married to him after she completed the treatment. The family members managed to drain more than 43 lakh from him.

Meanwhile, he came to know that another man from Nagapattinam had been cheated by the family in the same way. He lodged a complaint with the city crime branch police who registered a case against Shruthi and her parents. Investigation by the police is on.
