Coimbatore International airport expansion: 75 crores has been sanctioned as first instalment towards land acquisition - Minister S.P.Velumani

How relieving is that news for the Coimbatoreans? "Something is better than nothing" is what will strike their mind, as 75 crores has been allotted towards the long-pending airport land acquisition.

"Out of 1500 crores allotted for land acquisition, 75 crores has been sanctioned as the first installment. The first installment would be distributed to one set of land owners which will kick-start the acquisition process towards Coimbatore Airport expansion", said Minister SP Velumani, here today.



The Minister made this statement at the curtain raiser event for Global Investors meet 'GIM- 2019' to be held between January 23- 24, 2019.

P.Benjamin, Minister for Rural Industries, M.C.Sampath, Minister for Industries, Steel control and Special Initiatives , S.P.Velumani, Minister for Municipal administration & Rural  development and senior officials from various government department participated in the event.



Minister for Industries during his address noted that, "The first edition of  Global Investors meet was held in September 2015. More than 5,000 delegates from India and across the globe took part in the 2015 meet which attracted investments worth over 2.40 lakh crores (about 36 billion USD). Around 100 MoUs were signed during GIM-2015".

"Hence, in the upcoming GIM- 2019', the Government is expecting to surpass its previous investment record. As this summit will showcase the competitive strengths and opportunities in Tamil Nadu, GIM 2019 will be an ideal platform for Investors", he added.

The Minister also stated that "We are optimistic that Coimbatore will yield an investment of 20000 crore in GIM 2019".

Briefing on the scope of automobile industry in TN, the Minister evoked that TN is one among the top 10 states in the nation in automobile accessories manufacturing. As 16 lakh cars are manufactured every year, we are expecting more investments from the automobile manufacturers.

"12 sectors are the focus areas for this GIM - 2019 including Aero Space, Defence, Information technology, Agro processing and Automobiles", the Minister revealed.

"Single window system will help to eliminate all procedural delays related to setting up of industries. Business facilitation act 2018 is a historic act which has eased setting up of business in Tamil Nadu", the industry minister added.

Minister S.P.Velumani during his address said that "Coimbatore is a promising industrial belt and every possible step has been taken for uplifting industrial development in this region. We have also requested to extend the Mumbai - Bangalore industrial corridor till Coimbatore, which if made possible will be a huge transformation in developing the city".



The minister also mentioned about the Coimbatore international airport expansion plan which has been moving at snail's pace.

"Neccesary steps are being taken by the government for completing the land aquisition process. As first instalment, 75 crores has been sanctioned to compensate the land owners which will be accomplished  shortly", the Minister assured.
