A memorandum of understanding is about to be signed off between YATS corporation in support with Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) and TNAU. The team of experts from YATS, Japan had visited TNAU to share their knowledge in cultivation of Shiitake mushrooms to farmers and students, under local weather conditions.
Mr. Yasuhide Ito, Mr. Shinji Uyama, Major General (Retd.) Takayuki Hirano, Ms. Tomomi Shingai, C.A. Surinder K Kalra and Mr. Mashiko Murakami were part of the expert team from YATS. The officials from TNAU will guide the expert team to conduct feasibility and verification Survey for cultivation of Shiitake mushroom at Coimbatore, Mettupalayam and Ooty.

In association with TNAU, YATS corporation will incorporate state-of-the-art technology in manufacturing of sawdust blocks along with incubation technology for growing Organic Shiitake mushrooms and related machinery like auto clave, mixer and auto packaging.
This initiative will enable local production of shiitake mushroom at affordable costs in India, which is currently imported from Korea, China and Thailand at Rs.1600/- per kg.
