Today marks an important day in the history of advertisement, 66 years ago on the same day, the first legal television commercial was aired in New York.

Bulova, a watch and Jewellery company established in New York, holds the pride to be the first client to launch a TV commercial.

The commercial was only for a brief 10 seconds with some graphics about the product and a live voice over as the content. The commercial was aired at 2:29 pm at a baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies. They incurred a spot cost of $9, $4 for airtime and $5 for station charges, according to American Heritage magazine.
