Coimbatore city is seeing different activities and awareness campaigns on day to day basis. Today one such awareness rally about the educational schemes available for differently-abled children was organised from CCMA government higher school, Coimbatore. It was organised in coordination with Veerasamy Mudaliar High School, Coimbatore. The rally was flagged off by Chief Educational Officer Dr.Arulmurugan at the CCMA Government higher secondary school. Nearly 550 students participated along with the staffs and Mr. Chandrasekar the Headmaster of the school.
The main aim of the rally was to make people aware of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Inclusive Education for the Disabled at Secondary Stage (IEDSS) schemes. This scheme offers help to disabled children who are above the age of 14 years for completing the secondary education from Class 9 to Class 12 in a government school. Here, the students with disabilities moving from elementary school to secondary school are identified and they are given access to study materials, scholarships, hostel facilities, transport facilities, guidance in studies, including the provision of scribes and readers.
The differently abled children pursue education till 8th standard in special schools and drop out as there is no facility to continue education in those schools. But now with the help of these schemes, the children can enrol themselves in any of the nearby government school after finishing 8th standard. All the government schools are providing these schemes to provide education to the differently abled children and helping them to instil self-confidence in them.
