Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched on Oct 2nd, 2014, New Delhi, by the Government of India. The aim of the campaign is to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. The government has advised all ministries to implement the campaign in their departments, either fortnightly or by organising events, camps or competitions and spread the wings of the mission.
The Department of Public Enterprise has advised all public sector organisations to implement the Swach Bharat Fortnight plan. Today, HPCL, Coimbatore mobilised a walkathon and a cleaning programme at Ukkadam Bus stand. Close to 100 students of the Bishop Appasamy College volunteered to the programme.
The City Mayor, P. Rajkumar inaugurated the programme and was flagged off with the Swachh Bharat pledge by Benny Thomas Chief Regional Manager of HPCL, Coimbatore. The walkathon started from HPCL regional office, near the railway station and reached Ukkadam bus stand at 10:45 am.
The Chief regional Manager, HPCL, Benny Thomas stated that they have taken utmost efforts to create awareness and educate people on the significance of cleanliness. HPCL will conduct similar campaigns at Erode, Salem and Tirupur shortly.
Other dignitaries who were a part of this mission were Chief Health Officer, Dr Santosh Kumar, Mr.Salim Area councillor and Dr Jamima Winstant, Principal of Bishop Appasamy College.
