The Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) at TNAU has issued critical data to Carrot & Beetroot cultivators around TN. Based on 11 yrs of statistical data, the Price Forecasting Scheme of TNAU has predicted the wholesale price for the month of June & July.
Carrots - Rs.35 per kg at hilly regions and Rs. 30 per kg for the produce grown in plains for premium quality and Beetroots - Rs. 30 per kg at hilly regions and Rs. 26 per kg at plains.
In TN, the districts of Nilgris, Dindigul and Krishnagiri are the feature places for Carrot cultivation, which covers nearly a land mass of 3453 hectares. The cultivation of Beetroot in TN is done in 1421 hectares, the major contributors are from districts of Nilgris, Theni, Thalavadi and also sparsely from districts of Tirupur.
The department of Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies has also advised the farmers to take prudent selling and stocking decisions in concurrence with the statistical data.
The demand for Carrots has currently boosted up after supply from Karnataka to Mettupalayam has stopped. Our Beets from TN are also exported to countries like Maldives, UAE and Singapore.
