The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, has welcomed the announcement in the interim budget that efforts will be taken to implement the Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme as an irrigation, groundwater recharge and drinking water scheme.
“On behalf of the people of this region we thank the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for this,” chamber president D. Nandakumar has said.
Though the neighbouring States had increased Sales Tax on petroleum and diesel to compensate the loss in Sales Tax, Tamil Nadu has not done so.
Amendments:
The chamber also welcomed the proposal to make necessary amendments to the Tamil Nadu Fiscal Responsibility Act 2003.
Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association has welcomed the allocations for roads and urban developments. However, there is no announcement on infrastructure development in Coimbatore, according to a press release from the association.
