Corporate Companies support to upgrade facilities at Government School

Nearly 30 government schools are remodelled as there are the number of computers, benches, desks, cupboards and cleaner toilets, and drinking water facilities in these schools. This was the result of the Corporate Social Responsibility activities by various companies.

As a CSR initiative of a company the Government Higher Secondary School with a strength of 914 students and 40 staffs at Kovilpalayam has a renovated toilet, there are new classrooms, bookshelves, and even UPS back-up and has a better infrastructure. The school has a first-aid box, sports materials, and is able to introduce club activities.

CRI pumps have adopted 100 government school across the country including nine in the cities. They provide the students with the belt, rank badges, and tie, identify slow learners and give them separate coaching, have appointed security personnel, and trainers for sports activities. The company takes up CSR activities in schools to bridge the gap in infrastructure between the government and private school. The boards of the school are painted green because it's dust free, glare free and strain free for the eye. And Thirukural is written on all compound walls to educate the kids.

All government schools are not getting this changeover due to lack of CSR support from the companies. The district has totally 148 schools and only 30 are supported.

One such school is Government Higher secondary school at Kuniamuthur which has 1400 students and no CSR support. It needs more computers, restrooms, and support for extra-curricular activities.

The companies identify schools based on the locality and requirement. The education department has prepared a list of schools that did not receive a CSR and sent it to the state government for budgetary allocation.

The priority will be according to the number of students, school profile, and facilities available. The funds come from various government schemes, agencies, and organisations. A CSR activity meeting has been planned by the district government.
