Tourist influx in TamilNadu expected to cross 30 lakh mark, says tourism minister V.N. Natarajan

Tourist arrival in Tamil Nadu is expected to go beyond 30 lakh mark during the current year, state tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan said on Tuesday.

A little over 29.38 lakh tourists had visited the state during 2015 and till date 8.84 lakh have visited, Natarajan said at the valedictory of Annual Summer Festival in the district.

The growth record indicates that the tourist arrival is expected to surpass the 30 lakh mark, he added.

Under 'Vision 2023' programme, chief minister Jayalalithaa had sanctioned 10 crore to develop infrastructure at tourist destinations, as a result of which about 1.05 crore foreign tourists are expected to visit the state, he noted.

Meanwhile, the gate collection at the just concluded three-day Flower Show in Ooty touched a whopping 36.30 lakh, which includes entry fee and charges for both still and video cameras, as over 1.25 lakh people visited the show, official sources said.
