Raghupathy's death: Social activist files contempt of court petition in Supreme Court against district administrative officials.

Alleging that the erection of banners, arches, and festoons during MGR centenary celebrations organized here have been the direct cause road accident in which Raghu, a techie had lost his life, Daniel Yesudoss, a social activist has filed a petition in the Supreme court of India.

Alleging that the erection of banners, arches, and festoons during MGR centenary celebrations organized here on December 3 has been the direct cause of road accident in which Raghupathy, a techie had lost his life, Daniel Yesudoss, a social activist has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India (SCI).

Noting that it amounted to contempt of court to erect banners and arches occupying road space despite Madras High Court's (HC) directive, the petitioner had stated that a precious life of a young techie was lost on the early hours of November 25, 2017 due to the callousness of the officialdom and partymen.

The petitioner had listed the defendants as, Niranjan Mardi, Home Secretary to Tamilnadu Government, Rajiv Ranjan, Highways Secretary, District Collector, TN Hariharan and CCMC Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan in his petition.

He has also cited installation of MGR and Jayalalithaa statues in Anna Silai junction here as a violation of the HC's. directive. The petitioner also sought compensation for the kin of the deceased Raghupathy.

It may be recalled that MLA N. Karthik of Singanallur Constituency had filed a similar petition in Madras HC for contempt of court proceedings against the ruling establishment with regard to installation of banner structures.
