Coimbatore, January 20
Alleging that the government has hiked the bus fare to up to 80% against the claim of 20%, the man in the street is much pained by the new upward revision, say the general public who are at the receiving end of the Government’s decision.
"Earlier, I used to pay Rs.100 to Rs.120 to travel to Salem from here, and now I have to shell out Rs.200 to Rs.220 after the upward revision of fares", said Mr. Gopal, a frequent bus traveller.
He further lamented that "The bus fare hike has poked a huge hole in the pocket of the common man."
“For the middle class, this hike is like a bolt from the blue. With a meager income of Rs.5,000 I could not dream of boarding a bus now, as it has become a costly affair" said Kamala, a homemaker.
Pranesh, a techie from the city pointed that "Even before the common man is to bounce back from GST effect, the bus fare hike has been forced down his throat. This Government will soon go out of office, if they continue to implement such anti-people measures."
