In the celebrations organized by Nayam organization, at Peelamedu the traditional sport of Tamils took precedence over others. Traditional sports programmes like “Vazhukku Maram”, Uriyadithal, Illavtta Kal which project the culture and tradition of Tamils were the highlights of the celebrations.

Bullock cart rides, Jutka rides were organized for children other than sports and games for them. A replica of Jallikattu bull and other items attracted the attention of many.

“The traditional Pongal festival could be seen only in rural areas, and bringing all aspects to a city like this is a welcoming trend. The city denizens would then only know the real worth of our culture. This would help sustain the traditions for years to come” said one of the participants.
