New drinking water connections would be given to applicants on a priority basis by the City Corporation after Pongal holidays said SP Velumani, Minister of Municipalities.

Coimbatore, January 13

New drinking water connections would be given to applicants on a priority basis by the City Corporation after Pongal holidays said SP Velumani, Minister of Municipalities.

Convening a review meeting with bankers in the district, and briefing the media later SP Velumani said that the water connections were not extended earlier as drought conditions persisted but it has been revived now.

While doing so the corporation workers have been advised not to damage roads and streets by digging pits.

While noting there would not be any new hike in civic taxes levied by corporation including for garbage collection, he said that the integrated bus stand would be created in Vellalore and project is awaiting fund allocation.

The Gandhipuram flyover has helped to ease congestion in the heart of the city as over 45% reduction in congestion is witnessed after the flyover came into use.

“The 100% hike in MLA’s salary was tabled in the assembly after getting representation from the legislators themselves. The DMK is opposing it now while it kept quiet earlier when the bill was on the making “Velumani said.
