Wind energy evacuation picks up, 3,500 MW generated in State on Monday

Wind energy investors in the State have reasons to celebrate.

The peak windy season has started and evacuation of wind energy has improved so far this year.

K. Kasthurirangaian, president of Indian Wind Power Association, told The Hindu on Tuesday that 3,500 MW of wind energy were generated in the State on Monday.

Of the total consumption of 292 million units of power in the State in the 24 hours from Monday 8 a.m., nearly 80 million units came from wind energy.

This was the peak evacuation of wind energy so far this year, as wind energy was 27 per cent of the total energy consumed. As the winds pick up in the State, he said, “We hope evacuation improves.”

Industry sources said that of the 7,506 MW of installed wind energy capacity in the State, less than 100 MW was added in the last one year. Installations had moved to other States in the last four years owing to several reasons.
