Coimbatore, January 11

Freezing temperatures prevailing in Ooty town has thrown life out of gear in the tourist hub. While Coonoor touched 0 degrees, Ooty town experienced subzero temperature at -1 degree today.

The tourists who have come to Ooty and Coonoor and other places to enjoy the off season have been forced to stay indoors in lodges and resorts due to the freezing temperature that is persisting in the hilly terrains of the Nilgiris district. The locals have also not ventured out due to very cold conditions.

While shops downed their shutters, the taxi and auto drivers sought warmth by way of putting campfire with the help of firewood.

"Very Cold conditions experienced here is something unusual, Ooty did not touch subzero even during the peak of winter months last year", say the denizens of Ooty.
