Elephant herd enters human habitation in Valparai

A herd of five elephants with a calf entered human habitation in a plantation in Valparai on Sunday night. According to sources, the herd damaged the estate office and the houses of a few workers while looking for food.

At estate manager Philip’s house, the herd damaged the kitchen. The manager with his family moved to safety in another room. It then moved to nearby houses. The occupants moved out of the houses to safety and with the help of others chased it away by beating drums and making noises. Around 2 a.m., the herd moved away, the sources added.
