Coimbatore, January 5
In order to prevent overspeeding and rash driving by motorists, speeder radar guns have been given to the Nilgiris district police by District collector Innocent Divya at a function here.
The traffic police could determine the speed of the passing vehicle by using this device and slap spot fines for over speeding indulged in by the callous motorists.
Motorists who exceed the prescribed speed limits within the urban limits such as Ooty and Coonoor and highways would be slapped with a spot fine of Rs.300 (for exceeding the prescribed limit by 10 km) Rs.400 and Rs.1000 for violating the norms if they indulge in over speeding further and beyond prescribed speed limits.
“Road and traffic offenses such as drunk driving, over speeding, rash driving and overloading would invite cancellation of driving license for three months” warned Murali Rumba, Superintendent of Police, Nilgiris district.
The traffic policemen were seen monitoring the speed of passing vehicles with speeder radar guns at the collectorate road in Ooty.
