Following Centre’s decision to refer the controversial National Medical Commission bill to a Parliamentary standing committee, the protesting doctors called off their strike today.
“The strike is called off as the bill has been deferred,” said Dr. Ravi Kumar, Co-ordinator of Indian Medical Council,Coimbatore.
According to the medical fraternity the creation of National Medical Commission, a law- making body for medical professionals and a regulator of medical education in the country, would be detrimental to the interest of the allopathy practitioners.
The Centre’s move to scrap MCI and replace it with National Medical Commission has met with stiff resistance from all over the state.
