Coimbatore, January 3
What a bang start to welcome the New Year with Chennai City Football Club Team defeating the very strong Mohun Bagan, 2-1 in the I-League held in Kolkata on Tuesday. The Team’s phenomenal strikes scored by Jean Joachim and Veniamin Shumeiko along with its defensive play style gave the host team its first defeat of the season.

Within seven minutes to the start of the play, striker Joachim made his first goal giving the CCFC team its much needed boost. But the actual nail-biting moment started when the CCFC player received a red card at the 35th minute and the next minute Mohun Bagan’s player Ansumana Kromah scored a goal.

In retaliation, the CCFC Team, led by Captain Soosi Raj played a more defensive and impactful match driven by its instinct of counter attacking by giving minimal chance to the opponent to score more. And the strategy got fruitful for CCFC with Shumeiko scoring the next goal at the 71st minute leading to 2-1 victory.

The match concluded with a history of Mohun Bagan losing in its home ground for the first time in three years along with the resignation of the team’s coach, Sanjoy Sen. “I take responsibility of my team’s poor performance and have decided to quit.” He said.
In contrast the CCFC team’s coach, V. Soundarajan was much applauded for the team’s stupendous victory despite being a man down. The CCFC team’s fight back performance has given a new hope to the upcoming matches and a lot for the fans to look out for.
