In a major development, the Coimbatore City International Airport on New Year’s Eve (31/12/2017) handled 70 aircraft movement with 35 landing and same number of take offs.
According to airport sources, the handling of 21 A320 and B737 aircrafts combined and 14 ATR aircrafts is considered to be the highest in recent times.
While 12 Indigo, 10 Jetairways, seven Air India and three Spie aircrafts with a total seating capacity of 4,374 passengers used the airport, one each of Air Arabia, Sri Lankan and Silk Air aircrafts with an overall seating capacity of 510 passengers also used the airport on the day.
A total of about 9500 passengers used the airport.
Notably, the city airport has a daily seat availability of 1605 to Chennai, 831 to Mumbai, 730 to Bengaluru, 552 to Delhi, 165 to Pune, 180 to Sharjah, 165 to Colombo and 165 to Sri Lanka.
“We hope that the existing growth would create more opportunities for airline companies in our country to focus on Coimbatore, in this year by giving better connectivity to various domestic and international destinations,” said an official.
