Coimbatore, January 02
The digitization of police verification process of passport applicants is on the anvil, G. Sivakumar, Regional Passport officer, said here today.

He said that in future, police could verify the passport applicant’s credentials and history by using a Tab, which would be supplied to them.
Assuming office on Monday as the RPO, Siva Kumar said that the passport application process, which has been simplified, is yet to gain popularity and remains underutilized by the public.
“A new scheme under which passport could be obtained within four or five days by submitting voter id, Aadhar, pan card or ration card remains underutilized. A new WhatsApp helpline has also been introduced (9487992991) to address the grievances of applicants, “Siva Kumar said.
Steps would be taken to shift the RPO office, which is currently functioning in City Corporation building in Coimbatore, to a new building, he added.
"They could download relevant documents using the electronic mode," Sivakumar said.
Siva Kumar, a native of Tiruppur, after his education in Erode and Madurai has joined the Indian Police Service in 2008 and worked as Superintendent of Police in Madhya Pradesh. He has served as an RPO at Malappuram before assuming charge here.
