Man held for posing as policeman

A 27-year-old man, who posed as a traffic cop, and checked vehicles near Podanur on Sunday morning, was caught by public, and was later handed over to the police.

M Mahendran, known to be a police informer was carrying out vehicle checks on Dargah Lane in Athupalayam, near Podanur on Sunday morning.

Mahendran was in civil clothes, and was stopping two-wheelers and verifying their documents. Some of the motorists became suspicious as they had not seen him conducting vehicle checks previously in the area.

Motorists began questioning Mahendran, and when he failed to give satisfactory answers, they decided to call the police. The police took him into custody, and are in the process of interrogating him.
