Elephant injures three members of a family

Coimbatore, Dec. 29

Three members of a family had a providential escape with injuries from an attack by a wild elephant while riding a bike in Karamadai, near here, today

According to forest personnel, the injured C. Ponnusamy (56), a daily labourer, his wife P. Maniammal (48) and their granddaughter P. Priyadarshini (8) were riding to Masaniamman Temple on a bike when a wild elephant was crossing the road.

The animal pushed them down from the vehicle and and all the three sustained injuries. While the animal was chased away by the local 

people, the three were rushed to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for treatment.

Since Maniammal sustained injuries on her head, she was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Forest Department also provided the family with an immediate compensation of Rs. 10000.
