Plea for solatium for the families of the men who died in septic tank incident

Coimbatore, December 22

The members of the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front, Adi Tamizhar Party and Samuga Needhi Katchi and other workers' unions petitioned the District Collector here today to grant solatium to the family of the three men who died today when cleaning a septic tank of a gold smithy.

They demanded a solatium of Rs. 10 lakh for each family. The three men died as a result of inhaling noxious gas in the septic tank. The waste from the production of gold got collected in the septic tank. The owner of the workshop had called up two persons from a private Agency yesterday to separate the waste and the gold.

The two men, Gowri Shankar and Ezhumalai died of suffocation on inhaling the noxious gas and Surya, who tried to help them come out of the tank, also died.

Owner of the gold smithy, Ravishankar has been arrested under Sec 304 of IPC.
