Forest personnel today retrieved the carcass of a female elephant aged around 31 that might have been killed by a tusker near Chinnakallar, here.
According to forest department sources, the field staff identified the carcass and alerted the medical team. An autopsy was conducted by forest veterinarian Dr. N.S. Manoharan.
After the post-mortem, Dr. Manoharan said that the animal might have been wounded by a tusker in a fight. The animal had a deep cut in the abdomen section and the innards were hanging out.
The carcass was later left in the open to be preyed upon by wild animals.
