Cleaner killed as truck rams bus near Kumarapalayam

One person was killed and two others sustained injuries after a truck rammed an Omni bus near Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district early Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as A Karthi, 27 of Allikuttai in Salem district. He was working as a cleaner in 'Kallada' private bus company. On Saturday he was in an Omni bus heading from Coimbatore to Salem. When the bus neared Pachampalayam in Namakkal district, a brick laden truck rammed the bus.

"Karthi, who was sitting next to the driver's seat, got trapped in the mangle and succumbed to his injuries on the spot," Kumarapalayam police said. They further said that the bus driver P Sureshkumar, 37, of Tuticorin and a passenger Unni Krishnan, 42, of Kottayam in Kerala sustained injuries.

Both the victims were rushed to Erode government hospital for treatment. A case has been registered by Kumarapalayam police and further investigations are on.
