Board exam results: Rescued child labourers shine too

The National Child Labour Project announced that 11 out of the13 child labourers, between the ages of nine and 14, rescued earlier in Coimbatore and Tirupur, who sat for the class 12 examinations this year passed. Seven of the students also scored above 900 in the examinations.

A statement from NCLP said these rescued students were provided free education in special training centres through grant funding received from the central labour ministry. The project usually either imparts bridge education to these children who might have dropped out of school much earlier or puts them in government and municipal schools being run in the locality. The statement said all the students had undergone education for at least a period of three years before being made to sit for the examinations.

Among the rescued students, M Devi from the Pollachi Nachi Muthu Gounder Pazhaniammal High School, scored the highest among the 13 students, with a score of 987 out 1,200. She was followed by G Sabari who scored 967 out 1,200 and M Vishnu Prabhu who scored 956 out 1,200.
