Airport expansion :Steps afoot to compensate land owners, says Additional Chief Secretary

Coimbatore, Dec. 15

Steps are being taken to appropriately compensate the land owners whose lands are to be acquired for the airport expansion, Mohan Pyare, Additional Chief Secretary, said here today.



He was addressing a meeting in the evening after inspecting the lands meant for acquisition. District Collector T.N. Hariharan was also present.



Earlier Mr. Pyare inspected the areas that included under airport runway expansion. He also consulted the public to give their opinion on this issue. The meeting was part of an initiative to upgrade the Coimbatore Airport to global standards. 

 

In connection with this, Mohan Pyare visited Uppilipalayam, Singanallur, Kalapatti and Irugur, where lands have been acquired for airport expansion. During this visit, he inspected the village limits, uncultivable lands, residential areas, acquired for the airport and the alternative routes for diversion. Following this, he spoke to the former land owners, who have given their land for the airport expansion. He received petitions from them regarding higher compensation, alternative housing arrangements and so on.
