Coimbatore, December 14
Six North Indians suspected to be involved in the ATM burglaries in the city have been rounded up by the Tamil Nadu police this morning.

Recently, two ATMs belonging to private banks near Hope College were burgled and Rs. 26 lakh was stolen. The cases were registered at the Peelamedu Police Station and special teams were formed by the Commissioner of Police K. Periyayya to track down the culprits. The teams were led by Balamurugan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, and police personnel Annadurai, Anbarasu and Saravanan.
Based on the recordings of the security cameras near the ATMs that were burgled, it was suspected that a couple of North Indians may have been involved in it. The police received information that the suspects had escaped to Namakkal and Salem by car. This morning a Harayana registration car sped away without halting at the toll gate near Kizhambur at Namakkal, which was later caught by the police. However, three of the suspects fled into a nearby village.

The police used a mini aircraft fitted with a camera to trace the culprits who were hiding in a field in the village and nabbed them.

Similarly, the police caught the other three suspects who were found in a lorry that did not stop despite being stopped by the police. On investigation, they confessed that they were involved in the ATM burglary.
The police seized Rs. 30 lakhs from them, according to reports. The accused will be brought to Coimbatore by this evening.
