Seven injured as van rams vehicles at Burliar

Seven persons were injured in a chain of accidents involving five vehicles as a van went out of control near the 10 Feet bridge at Burliar on Ooty-Mettupalayam Road on Saturday and rammed four other vehicles including a two-wheeler.

The Mettupalayam police said that van driver T. Arumugam (26) from Thenkasi lost control of the vehicle and it hit against a sports utility vehicle, a mini lorry, a bike and a car. The injured persons were identified as R. Divya Darshini (17), S. Veeramani (30) K. Kaviya Lakshmi (17), S. Usha Rani (42), R. Saravanan (46) and J. Jaishankar, from Chennai, who were travelling in the two cars and the van and K. Jayaprakash from Coimbatore who was riding the bike. They were admitted in various hospitals. The van driver was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
