Communist Party of India calls it a day sans glamour

The People Welfare Front candidates couldn't match the money and muscle power of their Dravidian counterparts. On Saturday too, the candidates of CPM who are contesting in two segments of Coimbatore wound up their campaign in their signature simple style with barely 50 to 60 cadres accompanying them.

CPM candidate C Padmanaban for Coimbatore South constituency addressed the party cadres near Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand at Gandhipuram here on Saturday evening. He said the party would not be able to fight with money and muscle power. But they can fight for people's welfare.

Former CPM MP PR Natarajan and PWF, DMDK, MDMK, TMC and VCK local leaders all came to the streets and were seen standing in front of a local bakery and catching up with people. There were no luxury cars and the leaders were seen walking and travelling in an SUV along with the party cadres.

PWF and its alliance party cadres kept the party flags and asked the voters to give a chance to their party to rule the state. "People had seen the AIADMK and DMK governments repeatedly. They have lost their faith in the Dravidian parties. We are working for the people and promise not to be involved in any corruption," said Padmanaban.

Former MP PR Natarajan said the party workers had been working hard for the past 20 days and they had walked more than 200 kilometers. "We have formed many teams to prevent the money distribution and petitioned the district collector as well," said Natarajan.
