How to cast your vote without a Voter ID

Given that, your name is in the voter's list, you can still cast your vote, even without a voter ID. In order to facilitate voters who fails to produce their voter ID while exercising their democratic duty, Election Commission allows 11 other documents as a substitute for the Voter ID.

The poll panel ordered to distribute Voter Booth Slip at least a day before the election to the voters.

In case, of non-production of either Valid Voter ID with a photograph by the voter he/she can utilise following 11 documents attached with their photographs and issued by government agencies.

These are the documents you can produce at your polling booth.

  1. Passport
  2. Driving licence
  3. ID provided by PSU organisations
  4. Bank passbook with photograph
  5. PAN card
  6. Smart card provided by National Population Register
  7. ID provided through MGNREGA scheme
  8. Medical Smart Card by Labour Welfare Ministry
  9. Pension ID card with photograph
  10. Voter slip by Election Commission of India
  11. Official ID provided to Member of Parliament and Legislative Assembly

Finding an electorate's name in the registry is a must to cast vote. However, voter slip or other photo ID documents are useful only to substantiate electorate's identity in case of mismatch of photograph happens.

NRI's should produce their original passport to prove their identity and other documents are not accepted, according to the Election Commission of India.
