Makkal Auto offers free ride for aged voters

While political parties assure freebies in a bid to woo voters, Makkal Auto in Coimbatore has come out with a special gesture to ensure 100 percent voting.

T. Selvaraj of Makkal Auto says, as an election special service, Makkal Auto is available on call to transport senior citizens over 70 years of age and the physically and visually challenged people to voting booths and bring them back home, completely free of cost.

This is within the Coimbatore Corporation limits. Those wishing to avail of this service can also book the auto in advance.

To do so, call: 0422- 4000800.

“It is a duty of every citizen to cast his or her vote and Makkal Auto will ensure all its employees cast their ballot on May 16. Those drivers who will be on duty that day will be given double salary and time off to vote. Those who are from places other than Coimbatore will get leave with salary and transport allowance.”

There are 240 autos in Makkal Auto and roughly half of them are owner driven, says Mr Selvaraj.

“And, nearly 350 families are looked after by Makkal Auto counting the drivers and our support services.” Mr. Selvaraj says all his employees have been encouraged to vote and that he will be monitoring if they do so.
