The heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes of a 57-year-old brain dead man from the city were retrieved on Wednesday.
Tthe heart was airlifted to Chennai.
Rajagopal from Saibaba Colony was admitted to PSG Hospital on May 7 after he suffered numbness in the left hand and leg, head ache, and started vomiting. As he did not respond to treatment, doctors declared him brain dead on Tuesday. His family members were counselled about organ donation.
On getting their consent, a team of doctors from private hospitals in the city and Chennai retrieved the organs. Rajagopal’s kidneys were donated to patients at Ramakrishna Hospital and Abirami Hospital.
His liver and eyes were retained for patients in PSG hospital. With the cooperation of the police a green corridor was readied to transport the heart to airport in just five minutes. It was transplanted on a patient at Fortis Malar Hospital.
