Chennai City Football Club to herald a new chapter in the history of Coimbatore football


Nov. 19: Chennai City Football Club (CCFC) launched its squad on Sunday for 2017-18, its foundation and new jersey for the team with pomp and style.

To the cheer of football fans of the city, CCFC declared Nehru Stadium as its home stadium as part of its efforts to promote football in the city. 

The club took it upon the task of improving Nehru Stadium to a global standard with the support from government of Tamil Nadu and will bring in prestigious Hero I- League Football matches to the city for the first time.

Nehru Stadium will host a few football matches of Hero I- League which will be played between December 2017 and April 2018 spanning several cities across the country.

CCFC, comprising players from different regions of Tamil Nadu, will play its first home match against Kolkata giants East Bengal on December 23 this year.

"It is not only about promoting football, we are actually shaping heroes out of the state players," said Rohit Ramesh, the owner of CCFC.



Mr. S.P. Velumani, Minister for Local Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programmes, presided over the function and Mr. P. Balakrishna Reddy, Minister for Youth welfare and Sports Development, Mr. T.N. Hariharan, District collector, Coimbatore, Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner, and Mrs. P. Gandhimathi, Deputy Commissioner of Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, were present.

Earlier, both the Ministers visited the Nehru stadium to inspect the slew of works aimed at its upgradation and uplift.
