Coimbatore, Nov 18: "Kovai has always been close to my heart. It was here I pursued my graduation" said Mr. K. Periaiah who took over as the 27th Commissioner of Police (COP) here today.
He replaces Mr. A. Amalraj, who has been transferred and posted as COP, Trichy.
The new COP shared his nostalgic memories about his association with Coimbatore. "I did my graduation in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (1982-1988). During my college days, I was very much inclined towards sports and games. I headed the TNAU hockey team and also was the district football team captain" he said.

The new Commissioner also said that he would strive to safequard the harmony of the city.
On the growing traffic menace, Mr. Periaiah said that he would devise viable plans to address the issue.
"We would work in co-ordination with the people, city administration and the corporation to ensure optimum results", he told.
In 1997, Mr. Periaiah passed the IPS examination and since then held several positions in the police department. He served as Additional Commissioner (traffic), Greater Chennai, in his previous posting.
