Mother, daughter attempt self immolation

A woman and her daughter today attempted to commit self immolation in the premises of district collector, over a disputed land.

The woman, Rajeswari, along with her daughter Rohini, had come to the collectorate to present their case that some persons were trying to grab their small piece of land, police said.

Suddenly both poured kerosene they were carrying in a can and before proceeding further, police on duty overpowered them and took them into custody.

Rajeswari claimed that she was running a petty shop in Kalapatti, near Airprt for the last 15 years and suddenly some persons had put up a board, stating that it belonged to the Government.

As there was no response to repeated pleas from the adminstration, she had no other go but to end their lives since there were no other means to eke the livelihood, she said.
