CII-Yi Tirupur Chapter launches “Plastic No Thanks” project

Coimbatore, Nov. 14

In alignment with the national vision of Young Indians (Yi) – “Sanitizing and Sensitizing India’, the Tirupur Chapter of Yi launched an initiative “Plastic No Thanks” project today.

District Collector Dr K.S Palanisamy was the Chief Guest for the launch that took place at Jaivabai Girls School, Tirupur.

"The change should start from the students. Students should start using cloth bags and thus spread the usage of eco-friendly bags among their parents and society", Mr. Palanisamy said.

"The main objective of CII-Yi's project is to curb plastic usage and educate public on the ill-effects of dumping plastic bags. During the first phase, cotton bags would be distributed to the public to replace five plastic bags. By the end of 2018, the mission intends to distribute at least 1 lakh cloth bags to the public". said Mr Chethan Gandhi, Chair, Swachh Bharat, Tirupur.

Addressing the students, Mr K. Kandasamy, Chairman, CII Tirupur, stressed on the harmful effects of using plastic bags. He motivated the students to promote tree planting and conservation.

Mr Prasana Ramasamy, District Revenue Officer, Mr Shravan Kumar, Sub Collector, and Mrs Shanthi, Chief Educational Officer,  participated in the launch.
