Coimbatore, Nov.14
In an attempt to formulate means of presenting science comprehensively to the masses, and build a network for science communication, the Zoo Outreach Organisation (ZOO), in association with an expert in science communication, would conduct a two-day workshop in Coimbatore on Saturday and Sunday ( Nov 18 and 19).
The sessions would be handled by Devayanai Khare, an experienced Science Communicator, who has made presentations on various science topics across the country.
The workshop is to be held in the ZOO office, at Thiruvannamalai Nagar, Saravanampatti here.
Talking about the workshop, Priyanka Iyer, Researcher at ZOO, said that the workshop is aimed at making science presentable to common people. “Science has complex terminologies that may be tough to comprehend for general audience. If the process of communicating science could be simplified, it would educate people of all age groups,” she told the Simplicity.
She further added that the important aspects of the workshop would be to help learn about science communication and its importance; to understand the tools for science communication; to harness social media to communicate science; to learn to pitch science stories to press and media; and to establish a network for science communication.
“We have not selected a medium for the proposed network so far. At the end of the two days, we should be able to create a network that could create awareness and be an important tool for science communication,” she observed.
The workshop is open to people above the age of 17 and the last date of registration is Nov 16 (Thursday).
