"Don't shatter my dreams in the name of ragging" student complains

Coimbatore, Nov. 14

Vellaiya Tirupathi, a first year college student staying at Dr. Ambedkar Boys Hostel located on Dr. Balasundaram Road here, has alleged that he has been 'tortured' by his seniors in the name of ragging.

The student lodged a complaint with the Race Course police station alleging ragging and also seeking safety.

Vellaiya Tirupathi, who hails from from Dharmapuri, is pursuing his education at a private college at Kovaipudur. He has stated in his complaint that he fears his educational dreams would be shattered due to the 'constant' disturbance inflicted by the senior students.

"The seniors force me to buy food for them from outside and also harass me to wash their clothes. Whenever I desist or voice my concern, they do not hesitate to hurt me. Apart from the students, some 'strangers' are also accommodated in the hostel who often bother junior students".

"As there is no warden for the hostel, I am left with no choice other than to complain to the police. I feel insecure to go back to the hostel", he said.

Dr. Ambedkar Boys Hostel is run by the Directorate of Adi Dravidar Welfare to help students' from economically and socially deprived backgrounds. Such students are provided accommodation at subsidised rates.
