The Directorate of Technical Education has uploaded a set of 83 e-lectures on YouTube that students can access.
A Google search for e-lecture DoTE throws up the lectures in physics, mathematics and chemistry. The bilingual lectures are meant for first year students of diploma in polytechnic colleges in the State.
DoTE officials say the e-lectures would benefit around 1.10 lakh first year students who are in engineering programmes.
“We have uploaded 83 lectures. There are three play lists - 25 lectures in engineering physics; 20 in engineering chemistry; and 38 engineering mathematics,” a DoTE official said.
Experienced teachers V Srinivasan for mathematics; M. Govindarajan for chemistry and K. Chinnayan for physics deliver the lectures.
The programmes have been developed with technical support from the Educational Multimedia Research Centre of Anna University as part of University Grants Commission-funded digital India project.
e-modules soon
The aim is to prepare 720 e-modules of which 360 would be completed this academic year and the rest next year. Funds for the project were announced in the State budget in June this year.
The polytechnic institute teachers came during the weekends to the University’s Audio Visual Research Centre for the programme.
EMRC director S. Gowri said Anna University, which already had a community radio station, was among the seven institutions across the country chosen to upload the e-modules via DTH. The lessons would be available on Channel 10 too.
Each of the e-modules would be for 30 minutes and the topics covered include mechanical, electrical, civil, electronic and computer science engineering.
Govt allocates Rs. 58 lakh
Higher Education Minister K.P. Anbalagan, who formally launched the e-modules on Wednesday, said the State government had allocated Rs. 58 lakh for the project.
“My district, Dharmapuri, is a backward area in education. Last year, 20,106 students (around 92.23%) passed class 12 from my district. This government has put a lot of emphasis on higher education by starting colleges. Despite having a good number of self-financing institutions the government has continued to establish colleges so that all students will get an opportunity to study. In Palacode, my constituency, this year when a new college was launched, 526 students joined. Normally only 200 or so students would join a new college. Now, only 639 students have not taken up higher education,” he told a gathering of polytechnic students who participated in the event.
Two phases
R. Palaniswamy, commissioner of the Directorate of Technical Education, said the e-modules would be completed in two phases and benefit students as they would be able to access the lessons on their smart phones or on TV.
Anna University registrar S. Ganesan said the institution would create training facilities for polytechnic institutes in the next two months.
